play grass

Our Play Grass surfacing has a short pile and comes in 15 different colours. It comes with a 10 year guarantee and will provide many years of all weather play.

Play Grass is often installed in conjunction with our Just Like Grass surfacing to create exciting and stimulating paths and rivers through your playground. It can also be used to create a roadway for bikes and trikes.

One of the most important aspects to consider with Play Grass surfaces is the installation of an appropriate subbase to ensure longevity of the surface, an even finish and adequate drainage.

What can it be used for?

Play Grass is a versatile surface which can be used for a wide range of purposes from making a large space accessible all year-round, to toddler-friendly seating areas. Some of the key uses include:

  • Landscaping
  • Daily Mile Tracks
  • Safety Surfacing
  • Mounds
  • Sports Areas

Sub-bases

Our play grass surfaces can be laid directly onto a solid surface (e.g. tarmac, concrete). If required we can install an additional 10mm shock pad beneath the surface to soften the overall feel of the area, this is particularly useful in nurseries where children spend a great deal of time crawling and sitting on the floor.

For any installation of play grass onto a soil/grass area we recommend the installation of a stone sub-base is to aid longevity, provide additional water drainage, and to prevent uneven settlement of the surface.

The depth of the sub-base will vary depending on the ground conditions, be it soft clay soil, stony ground, or where there are many tree roots in situ. A minimum of 50mm depth of sub-base material, usually MOT Type 1, laid over a geotextile membrane is sufficient.

Depending on the sub-base stone type, the surface will also require a thin layer of grit sand to ensure a flat, smooth surface.

The team that installed our equipment were fantastic, we didn’t even know we had them there.

They were extremely tidy and worked very hard so please pass on our thanks to them.

This was a great addition to our curriculum for the children as they watched science, technology and maths in action through the construction process. The children also had many chats with the team! At every stage, Phoenix Play have delivered a great service - planning, construction, resourcing and clearing the site afterwards.

Our most complex learners are now better able to engage with an increasing range of outdoor learning opportunities.

Outdoor spaces are vital to help those who experience multi-sensory processing difficulties develop their senses and gain and understanding of their place in the world.

The garden will not only enable a more holistic learning experience but will support overall health and wellbeing.
